Job Objective/Purpose

Ensure provision of high quality laboratory diagnostic services in the hospital as defined by Avenue Healthcare’s policies, protocols, procedures and standards. 

• Key Responsibilities

  1. Be involved in people management in coordination with the HR department               
  2. Ensure the unit has all the required resources for effective and efficient work                
  3. Timely and accurate billing of laboratory services. 
  4. Stock management: 
  5. Ensure that Avenue corporate governance policies are adhered to. 
  6. Review and act on quality indicator reports (IQC &EQA) 
  7. Follow laid down Lab Board approved rules for medical lab profession and adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients.
  8. Ensure timely response to emergencies. 
  9. Carrying out tests based on outlined SOPs & policies.
  10. Ensure all sentinel incidents/events are recorded and reported to the Hospital Manager within 24 hours using the provided tools. 
  11. Ensure that the fridge temperatures and ambient temperature and humidity are charted twice daily, and any error reported to the Hospital Manager.
  12. Ensure timely escalation of any urgent out of stock items to the Head of Laboratory Operations.
  13. Ensure that any issue pertaining quality is escalated to the Head of Laboratory Operations.
  14. Infection control.
  15. Client satisfaction; Ensure client satisfaction through high quality of service, effective communication, prompt feedback and escalation of any unresolved issues to the Hospital Manager.     
  16. Ensure adequate knowledge of all Avenue policies, procedures and systems as outlined in the HRMIS.
  17. Prevention of lab related errors by following the laid down policies and procedures on sample handling during pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
  18. Maintain client/patient privacy and confidentiality at all times

  Personal Specifications

  1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related discipline.
  2. Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  3. 5 years’ work experience.
